Macmillan Open House was created to provide culturally relevant support for Black and South Asian communities navigating cancer. Too often, stigma, silence, and systemic barriers leave people feeling unseen and unsupported.
This activation set out to change that by creating a space where people could feel safe, represented, and empowered to talk openly about cancer and its wider impact. Recognising that cancer affects more than the body, the Open House addressed the emotional, cultural, spiritual, and practical realities of the journey from faith and family to mental health, food, finances, and love.
Purpose

Brought in as production partners by The Elephant Room, we designed and produced a warm, welcoming pop-up inspired by the comfort and familiarity of home. Created for Black and South Asian communities, Macmillan Open House was a first-of-its-kind space rooted in cultural storytelling and community care.
The environment was shaped by traditional décor, 80s and 90s Afro-Caribbean and South Asian–inspired furnishings, shared food, and moments of togetherness that honoured identity and lived experience.
Guests stepped into a space where no topic was off-limits and no story too difficult. By centring culture, connection, and care, the Open House enabled open dialogue, deep listening, and genuine support.
