If we’re talking about credibility and rankings, you’ll know that Forbes is probably one of the most notable publications to date to recognise and spot the next generation of talent. They have developed lists such as the Forbes 30 Under 30 and the Forbes 500 across many different industries such as Entertainment, Marketing, Food & Drink, Law & Policy, Art & Culture & many more. Having started the journey in America the Forbes 30 Under 30 has made a shift over to Europe over the last couple of years focusing on 300 young disruptors that will curate the future in their specific industries.
In previous posts we have described 2018 as a year that is definitely going to be a year for the culture and it's funny because we keep seeing things manifest right before our eyes. A recent example as we all probably know is the whole fuss around the Wireless 2018 line up which was announced earlier last week where tickets also dropped and was fully sold out within days but the most important thing was the quality of the line up as well as how much of our culture was represented in the line up. Milestones such as this leave event goers no choice but to make their ticket purchase without hesitation.
Now it doesn’t stop there, Forbes just recently released their list for the 30 Under 30 for European industries. During it’s time of running previous individuals who have been ranked across many categories include Julie Adenuga, Stormzy, Jamal Edwards, Michela Cole, Gareth Bale & John Boyega amongst many others. However the most notable and probably the most relevant industry for us would be the list for entertainment. With a judging panel for this category including previous listees such as Jamal Edwards MBE & Michela Cole as well as Matthew O’Donohoe there is no doubt the list was going to be very well represented and carefully picked.
Individuals honoured to be on the 2018 list include a range of musicians such as Ray BLK who we after we included her in our 7 artists to watch for 2018; signed to Island Records and is now included in the Forbes list for entertainment. Other artists also include one of the biggest U.K. artists right now and multiple Brit nominee; J Hus. The Stratford rapper has been killing it lately with his chart topping album and numerous notable achievements so we already know he's going to have a good year. Another multiple Brit nominee Dua Lipa is also included in the list, with 5 nominations for the Brits and 900 million views + on one of her latest music videos on Youtube she surely deserves to be on the list. Other musicians on the list include AJ Tracey, Lady Leshur, Rita Ora & Sampha.
The Forbes list for entertainment couldn’t create such a list and not include actors or actresses who are pushing our film industry to levels that it hasn’t seen in the past. An actor that has been breaking barriers is definitely Daniel Kaluuya who recently won a NAACP award for Outstanding Actor where he gave an appreciating speech and he was also recently nominated for a Best Actor Oscar award for his role in Get Out. Kaluuya was also included in the list among other actors and actresses such as Jacob Anderson who starred in Adulthood and Game of Thrones and Fast & Furious’ Nathalie Emmanuel who started her career in Hollyoaks as a teenager.
The list also includes one of the biggest sports personalities right now; Anthony Joshua. The undefeated British boxer hasn’t been shy from showing fans his Nigerian side and has teamed up with many brands over the last year due to his strong presence. Sport's personalities also include Manchester United's Paul Pogba who has been one of adidas’ most notable sports endorsement over the years. Be sure to check out the list on Forbes official site and be sure to be on look for those individuals listed on the list throughout the year.
